Capnella imbricata
Origin: Indian Ocean, Indo-Pacific
Kenya Tree Coral (Capnella imbricata) is one of the most popular beginner soft corals, forming branching tree-like colonies with feathery polyps that remain extended for most of the day under adequate lighting. Almost exclusively aquacultured, it propagates readily by dropping branches that settle and regrow, making it an excellent coral for fragging. Its rapid growth and extreme hardiness make it a staple recommendation for first-time reef keepers.
Place in moderate to high water flow with low to medium lighting. No direct target feeding required as it is photosynthetic, but benefits from occasional phytoplankton dosing. Propagates easily by cutting branches and securing to live rock. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals as it can grow quickly.
