Cleithracara maronii
Also known as: Keyhole Cichlid
Origin: South America
Cleithracara maronii is a shy, gentle cichlid from the Orinoco and Guiana river systems. Its warm golden-brown body and distinctive black keyhole marking make it immediately recognisable. Unusually timid for a cichlid, it pairs beautifully with medium tetras and other non-aggressive species.
Water: 22-27°C, pH 6.5-7.5, soft to moderately hard water. Tank: Minimum 120L, well-planted with hiding spots, subdued lighting recommended. Feeding: Omnivore; small pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia, quality flake. Behaviour: Very peaceful; may be bullied by larger or more aggressive fish. Compatibility: Excellent with tetras, corydoras, and other gentle species; avoid aggressive cichlids.
