Apolemichthys kingi
Origin: South Africa, SW Indian Ocean
The King Angelfish (Apolemichthys kingi) is a rare and beautiful large angelfish endemic to South Africa and the southwestern Indian Ocean. It displays a striking dark body with a prominent white saddle patch and yellow caudal fin. Rarely exported from its native range, it is a prized addition to any species-appropriate large marine aquarium.
Requires a very large aquarium of at least 600 L with abundant live rock for grazing. Feed a varied diet of frozen mysis, krill, spirulina, and angel-specific preparations. Territorial toward other large angels. Not reef-safe. Best suited to dedicated large FOWLR systems by experienced marine aquarists.
