Chromidotilapia kingsleyae
Also known as: Kingsley's Cichlid
Origin: West Africa (Cameroon, Gabon)
Chromidotilapia kingsleyae is one of the larger Chromidotilapia species, named after naturalist Mary Kingsley. It is an impressive fish with strong lateral banding and the genus' characteristic biparental mouthbrooding behaviour. A spacious aquarium with robust décor and good filtration is essential to accommodate its size and activity level.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness. Tank: Minimum 200L; open swimming space with caves and robust driftwood. Feeding: Large cichlid pellets, earthworms, prawns, and meaty frozen foods. Behaviour: Biparental mouthbrooder; large and assertive but less aggressive than jewel cichlids. Compatibility: Keep with other large West African cichlids or robust species of similar size.
