Ctenopoma kingsleyae
Also known as: Kingsley's Ctenopoma, Kingsley's Climbing Perch
Origin: West and Central Africa
Ctenopoma kingsleyae is one of the largest members of its genus, native to coastal rivers and streams of West and Central Africa. Its plain olive-brown colouration belies a bold personality and voracious appetite. It is a hardy species tolerant of varied water conditions and makes an impressive centrepiece for large aquariums, though it will prey on smaller fish.
Water: temp 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness tolerated. Tank: minimum 200L; provide large caves and driftwood for shelter. Feeding: carnivore — large pellets, earthworms, frozen fish, prawns, and live invertebrates. Behaviour: semi-aggressive and predatory; territorial towards conspecifics. Compatibility: best with large, robust fish only; will eat anything small enough.
