Julidochromis regani
Also known as: Kipili Julie, Regani Julie, Julidochromis Kipili
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Kipili Julie is a regional form of Julidochromis regani collected near Kipili on the Tanzanian coastline of Lake Tanganyika. Like all Julidochromis, it is elongated and slender with a striking horizontal stripe pattern. It is a substrate spawner that forms monogamous pairs and provides extended biparental care to its fry.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; consistent chemistry for long-term health. Tank: Minimum 120L; rocky structure with flat stones for spawning sites and crevices for shelter. Feeding: Omnivore diet of quality cichlid micro-pellets, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and occasional vegetable matter. Behaviour: Forms monogamous pairs; both parents guard eggs and fry — pair may be aggressive during spawning. Compatibility: Tanganyika community; pairs well with shell dwellers, Cyprichromis, or other Julidochromis.
