Nothobranchius kirki
Also known as: Kirk's Nothobranch, Kirk's Killifish
Origin: Southern Mozambique
Nothobranchius kirki inhabits temporary seasonal pools in southern Mozambique and adjacent areas. Males are adorned with vivid red spots scattered across a bright blue body, and the unpaired fins are edged in red and black. It is a moderately robust annual species that adapts reasonably well to captivity as long as the keeper provides proper peat substrate for spawning and manages the dry incubation period correctly.
Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat or coconut substrate; tightly fitted lid essential. Feeding: Live Daphnia, Artemia nauplii, blood worm; micro-pellets as supplement. Behaviour: Males fight; maintain as a trio (one male, two females) per tank. Compatibility: Species tank strongly recommended.
