Betta splendens
Also known as: Koi Betta, Koi Galaxy Betta, Marble Koi Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Koi bettas are produced by breeding marble genetics to create a tricolour pattern mimicking the look of koi fish. The pattern can include orange, red, white, and black in varying proportions, and like all marble bettas, the pattern may shift over the fish's lifetime due to transposable elements in the genome.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — clean water maintains bright colouration. Tank: minimum 20L, heavily planted with floating plants for resting areas near the surface. Feeding: carnivore — high-quality betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia; twice daily. Behaviour: males are aggressive — keep one male per tank; females can be kept in sororities. Compatibility: peaceful community fish; pattern may change over time due to marble genetics.
