Ctenochaetus strigosus
Origin: Hawaii, Pacific
The Kole Tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus), also known as the Yellow Eye Tang, is a popular reef aquarium fish from Hawaii featuring a brown body with fine horizontal white stripes and a bright yellow ring around the eye. It is one of the most effective algae grazers available, using its bristle-like teeth to scrape diatoms and detritus from rocks and substrate. Hardy and generally less aggressive than many other tangs.
Requires at least 250 L with plenty of live rock surfaces to graze. Supplement with algae wafers, nori, and spirulina-based pellets. Provide a varied diet to maintain health. May show aggression toward similar-shaped tangs; generally peaceful with dissimilar fish. An excellent reef clean-up crew member.
