Kribia kribensis
Also known as: Kribia Kribensis Sleeper, Kribensis Sleeper Goby, Cameroon Dwarf Sleeper
Origin: Cameroon, southern Nigeria
Kribia kribensis is a small eleotrid sleeper goby from the coastal forest streams of West Africa, particularly Cameroon and southern Nigeria, where it shares habitat with the equally well-known Pelvicachromis kribensis cichlid. It inhabits extremely soft, slightly acidic to neutral, heavily shaded forest streams with deep leaf-litter beds, submerged roots, and minimal water movement. The body is elongated and cylindrical with a mottled brown pattern and subtle iridescent speckling that provides excellent camouflage within the leaf litter. Males may develop slightly more vivid cheek and flank iridescence during courtship. It is a secretive, slow-moving micro-predator that ambushes tiny invertebrates among the substrate. Its care parallels that of other West African soft-water nano species: dim lighting, tannin-rich water, and extremely fine live or frozen prey items. A specialist fish for the dedicated West African biotope enthusiast.
Water: 23–27 °C, pH 6.0–7.2, GH 1–8, KH 1–5; soft, tannin-rich blackwater; Indian almond leaves recommended. Tank: 40 L minimum; leaf litter, fine sand substrate, driftwood, and subdued lighting; negligible water movement. Feeding: Micro-carnivore; baby brine shrimp, micro-worms, small cyclops, and daphnia; will not take large foods. Breeding: Cave or leaf spawner; male guards small clutch; fry require infusoria and micro-worms initially. Compatibility: Peaceful; best with other West African nano species; avoid large or boisterous tankmates.
