Cyprinus rubrofuscus
Also known as: Kujaku Koi, Peacock Koi, Metallic Asagi
Origin: Japan
Kujaku ("peacock") koi are a metallic variety with a white base, a reticulated net-like scale pattern (similar to Asagi), and red or orange markings. The combination of the metallic sheen, the intricate scale patterning, and the bold hi creates an extraordinarily complex and beautiful fish. Kujaku is one of the most visually impressive koi available.
Water: 5–25°C, pH 6.8–7.8, pristine water enhances the metallic sheen and scale pattern. Pond: minimum 1,000 L; the complex pattern is best appreciated from above. Feeding: color-enhancing koi pellets to develop the red markings against the metallic base. Behaviour: active and showy; the intricate pattern draws attention in any pond collection. Compatibility: all koi varieties; particularly impressive alongside solid-color koi.
