Lamprologus kungweensis
Also known as: Kungwe Shell Dweller
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
The Kungwe Shell Dweller is a relatively rarely imported species from the Kungwe Bay region of Lake Tanganyika, collected by specialist importers. It shares the shell-dwelling lifestyle of related Lamprologus species, with pairs guarding shells and spawning within them. Its subtle patterning belies its feisty territorial nature around its chosen shell.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water; pristine conditions for this sensitive species. Tank: Minimum 60L; fine sandy substrate with ample shell provision. Feeding: Small invertebrate-based foods — frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro pellets. Behaviour: Territorial pair; females spawn inside shells and males guard the perimeter. Compatibility: Species tank preferred; Tanganyika nano community with careful species selection.
