Origin: Brazil (Rio Tocantins)
Leporacanthicus galaxias (L129) is a mid-to-large carnivorous loricariid from the Rio Tocantins basin. It possesses specialised elongated teeth adapted for preying on snails and invertebrates. Its stunning white-on-black spot pattern and bold finnage make it a prized specimen, though its carnivorous tendencies require a carefully chosen community.
Water: 24–29°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate; good filtration essential. Tank: Deep caves and rocky overhangs; minimum 200L for an adult. Feeding: Carnivore; snails, frozen prawns, mussel, bloodworms, and carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Nocturnal; may prey on small invertebrates; semi-aggressive to similar species. Compatibility: Keep with robust fish; avoid dwarf shrimp and snails as tankmates.
