Peckoltia compta
Also known as: Leopard Frog Pleco, L134, Wild Leopard Frog Pleco
Origin: Brazil (Rio Jamanxim, wild)
Wild-sourced Peckoltia compta (L134) from the Rio Jamanxim display the richest, most vibrant expression of the species' golden-and-dark-brown vertical bar pattern. Wild fish often show greater colour intensity than captive-bred specimens and carry the natural variation that makes each individual uniquely patterned. They adapt well to aquarium life with proper acclimatisation.
Water: 25–30°C, pH 5.8–7.2, soft; acclimatise slowly from wild collection conditions. Tank: Driftwood caves; tannins beneficial for transition; minimum 80L. Feeding: Omnivore; offer a varied diet from the start — Repashy, bloodworms, algae wafers. Behaviour: Nocturnal; peaceful; may be initially shy; settles quickly once established. Compatibility: Community-friendly once settled; excellent with tetras and small Amazonian species.
