Baryancistrus sp. L191
Also known as: Dull-eyed Pleco, L191
Origin: Brazil (Rio Xingu)
Baryancistrus sp. L191 is a large loricariid from the Rio Xingu characterised by its earthy dark brown body with small pale spots and the genus' distinctive sunken-eye profile. It is a biofilm and algae grazer that thrives in the same warm, fast-flowing conditions as the Gold Nugget Pleco, requiring excellent water quality and strong oxygenation.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft; high flow and oxygenation critical. Tank: Rocky caves and smooth boulders; minimum 250L. Feeding: Omnivore; biofilm, algae wafers, Repashy, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables. Behaviour: Nocturnal; territorial toward other Baryancistrus — keep one per tank. Compatibility: Peaceful with most community fish of similar or larger size.
