Hemiancistrus subviridis
Also known as: Green Phantom Pleco, L200
Origin: Venezuela (Rio Orinoco)
Hemiancistrus subviridis (L200) is a spectacular loricariid native to the rocky, fast-flowing stretches of the Rio Orinoco in Venezuela. Its striking olive-green body covered with yellow spots and edged with bright yellow fins sets it apart from most plecos. It demands high flow, excellent oxygenation, and clean, soft water to truly thrive.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft; very high flow and oxygenation critical. Tank: Rocky caves and large smooth stones; minimum 150L with powerful filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; algae wafers, Repashy Soilent Green, blanched veg, occasional bloodworms. Behaviour: Nocturnal; males territorial — keep one male per tank. Compatibility: Peaceful with most community fish; avoid similar green-coloured plecos.
