Hypancistrus sp. L236
Also known as: Super White Spots Pleco, L236
Origin: Brazil (Rio Tapajós)
Hypancistrus sp. L236 is a compact loricariid from the warm, fast-flowing Rio Tapajós drainage, notable for its extremely high-contrast pattern of dense white spots on a jet-black body. It commands premium prices among Hypancistrus enthusiasts and requires warm, well-oxygenated soft water. Like all Hypancistrus, it thrives in caves and leans carnivorous.
Water: 27–31°C, pH 5.5–7.0, very soft; strong oxygenation and flow essential. Tank: Multiple small caves; smooth rocks; minimum 80L for a pair. Feeding: Carnivore-leaning; bloodworms, brine shrimp, quality pellets, minimal algae wafers. Behaviour: Nocturnal cave dweller; males fiercely guard spawning sites. Compatibility: Good community pleco; keep with peaceful, non-competitive tankmates.
