Hemiancistrus sp. L239
Also known as: Blue Phantom Pleco, L239
Origin: Venezuela (Rio Orinoco)
Hemiancistrus sp. L239 is closely related to L200 but displays a deeper blue-grey base colour with yellow spotting and striking yellow fin edges. Endemic to the rocky, fast-flowing sections of the Rio Orinoco, it demands high oxygenation and moderate to strong flow. Its spectacular colouration rivals the Green Phantom and both are prized in specialist collections.
Water: 26–30°C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft; very high flow and DO levels required. Tank: Rocky caves and boulders; minimum 150L; powerful canister filtration. Feeding: Omnivore; algae wafers, Repashy, blanched vegetables, occasional meaty foods. Behaviour: Nocturnal; territorial toward own kind — one male per tank. Compatibility: Peaceful with most community fish; avoid other phantom pleco species.
