Gymnogeophagus labiatus

Gymnogeophagus labiatus is a moderately sized eartheater from the Uruguay and La Plata river systems. It features uniquely enlarged lips adapted for picking at hard substrates and a soft pearlescent body colouration. Hardy and undemanding, it is an ideal introduction to the Gymnogeophagus genus.
Water: 18-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, accepts a range of water hardness. Tank: Minimum 200L, fine sand or smooth gravel, sturdy plants or driftwood décor. Feeding: Omnivore; cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworm, cucumber, and spirulina wafers. Behaviour: Generally peaceful; males may spar during breeding season. Compatibility: Good with South American characins and other subtropical cichlids.
