Scleromystax lacerdai
Also known as: Lacerda's Cory
Origin: South America
Scleromystax lacerdai is a rare species from Atlantic coastal drainages in southern Brazil, closely related to S. barbatus but distinguishable by differences in pattern and distribution. Males of this species also develop odontode bristles during the breeding season. It shares the preference for cooler, well-oxygenated water typical of its genus.
Water: 18–24°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to medium hardness; cool, well-oxygenated conditions. Tank: 100L+, fine sand substrate, robust plants, moderate to strong flow. Feeding: Sinking wafers, frozen bloodworm, tubifex, earthworm, and quality pellets. Behaviour: Peaceful schooling species; keep in groups with more females than males. Compatibility: Best with cool-water South American species; robust tankmates only.
