Botia rostrata
Also known as: Ladder Loach, Gangetic Loach
Origin: India, Bangladesh
Botia rostrata is a moderately large and robust loach with a series of dark dorsal saddles connected by lateral blotches, creating its distinctive ladder-like appearance. It inhabits fast-flowing, well-oxygenated rivers and requires good water movement in captivity. A sociable species, it settles best in groups and will use rocky caves and driftwood as resting shelters.
Water: 22-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, good water movement preferred. Tank: Minimum 120 L, smooth rounded substrate, caves and overhangs. Feeding: Sinking pellets, bloodworm, Tubifex, aquatic invertebrates. Behaviour: Social and active; less aggressive than some Botia relatives. Compatibility: Good with similarly sized peaceful to semi-aggressive fish.
