Synodontis granulosus
Origin: Africa (Lake Tanganyika)
Synodontis granulosus is a large mochokid catfish endemic to Lake Tanganyika, featuring a robust muscular body with a granular skin texture and a high dorsal fin bearing a serrated spine. One of the biggest Synodontis species in the lake, it requires hard, alkaline water replicating its Tanganyikan origin. Best housed in large aquariums alongside robust cichlids from the same lake.
Provide a large aquarium of at least 400 L with hard alkaline water (pH 7.8–9.0). Include caves and rocky hiding spots. Feed sinking carnivore pellets, frozen bloodworm, and mussel. Can be territorial toward conspecifics; keep alone or in large groups. Compatible with Tanganyika cichlids of similar size.
