Tropheops macrophthalmus
Also known as: Large-eyed Tropheops, Big-eye Tropheops
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Large-eyed Tropheops has notably enlarged eyes compared to other Tropheops species, giving it a distinctive appearance. Males develop bright yellow-orange to blue colouration depending on population, while females are brown-barred. It shares the characteristic down-turned mouth of its genus and is primarily an algae grazer in nature.

Feeding: Herbivore-based pellets, spirulina flake, and blanched vegetables. Behaviour: Territorial males; best kept 1 male to 3-4 females; remove overly aggressive individuals. Compatibility: Mbuna community; suitable with other medium mbuna of similar temperament.
