Salarias fasciatus
Origin: Indo-Pacific
Salarias fasciatus — the lawnmower blenny — is named for its relentless and highly effective grazing behaviour on microalgae, diatoms, and filamentous algae. It grazes continuously across rock and glass surfaces. Its cryptic, mottled colouration and large frog-like eyes give it a comical appearance. The lawnmower blenny requires abundant natural algae growth — in very clean tanks it may starve without supplementary nori/algae wafers.
Light: any (algae-dependent). Flow: moderate. Feed: supplement with nori/algae wafers if tank is very clean. Reef-safe. Excellent algae controller. One per tank.
