Pseudacanthicus serratus
Also known as: Red Fin Cactus Pleco, LDA031, L031
Origin: Brazil (Rio Tocantins)
Pseudacanthicus serratus (LDA031/L031) is a large, formidably armoured loricariid from the Rio Tocantins in Brazil. Its body is covered in sharp, cactus-like odontodes (spines), and its vivid red fins make it a spectacular centrepiece in very large aquariums. It is primarily carnivorous and can be aggressive toward other bottom dwellers.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft; strong filtration for large, messy feeder. Tank: Very large tank (400L+); large caves; smooth substrate to avoid fin damage. Feeding: Carnivore; prawns, mussels, bloodworms, snails, and sinking carnivore pellets. Behaviour: Territorial and aggressive toward other plecos; nocturnal. Compatibility: Keep with large, robust fish; not suitable for community tanks with small fish.
