Cyprinus carpio
Origin: Europe (captive bred)
The Leather Carp is a nearly scale-free carp variety with smooth, leathery skin and a robust, deep body. One of the oldest cultivated carp forms, prized across Europe for both the table and the ornamental pond. Small specimens settle quickly into garden ponds and are notably hardy through Northern European winters.
Suitable for large garden ponds of at least 2000 L. Tolerates a wide temperature range from near-freezing to 25°C. Feed specialist pond pellets, supplemented by natural pond foraging. Compatible with other pond fish. Ensure good water quality with adequate filtration as carp are heavy waste producers.
