Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis
Also known as: Lemon Tetra
Origin: Brazil (Tapajós River basin)
Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis, the Lemon Tetra from Brazil's Tapajós River, is deceptively beautiful: its near-transparent pale yellow body is offset by a striking yellow-and-black dorsal fin and a brilliant yellow iris. Colour deepens significantly in soft, slightly acidic water. A peaceful and adaptable species that mixes well with a wide range of community fish.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, preferably soft; colour intensifies in acidic conditions. Tank: 80 L minimum; planted aquariums with dark substrate enhance the delicate coloration. Feeding: Accepts quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen brine shrimp and daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful mid-water schooling species; keep 8+ for best schooling behaviour. Compatibility: Excellent with other small tetras, pencilfish, corydoras, and small rasboras.
