Ctenopoma acutirostre
Also known as: Leopard Bushfish, Spotted Climbing Perch, African Leaf Fish
Origin: Central Africa (Congo Basin)
Ctenopoma acutirostre is found across the Congo Basin, where its spotted patterning provides near-perfect camouflage among leaf litter and dappled light. It is a slow, deliberate ambush predator that drifts motionless among plants before striking at prey. Its unique beauty and characterful behaviour make it a prize specimen fish.
Water: 23–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 150L minimum, heavily planted, driftwood, dim lighting to encourage activity. Feeding: Carnivore — will eat small fish; wean onto prawns, earthworms, and meaty pellets. Behaviour: Slow and peaceful with large tankmates; dangerous to small fish. Compatibility: Keep with robust, similarly sized fish; never with nano species.
