Euapta lappa
Origin: Caribbean Sea, Indo-Pacific
The Leopard Sea Cucumber (Euapta lappa) is a long, sinuous species with a translucent body marked by brown or tan banding and sticky pinnate tentacles used to collect detritus and organic particles from sand and rock surfaces. It moves actively through the tank processing substrate and biofilm as it goes. Requires the same careful handling and stable conditions as other sea cucumbers.
House in a large, mature reef system of at least 300 L with a deep sand bed. Avoid any exposure to air or copper-based medications. Handle with extreme care as evisceration under stress can be fatal to other tank inhabitants. Provide adequate detritus and organic matter as food. Keep with reef-safe fish only.
