Macropharyngodon meleagris
Origin: Indo-Pacific
The Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris) has a white to cream body covered in bold black spots that transition to brilliant blue-green patterns in mature males. One of the more challenging wrasses to keep successfully due to its preference for live copepods and sensitivity to water quality changes. A thriving, mature reef tank with diverse microfauna gives it the best chance of long-term success.
Requires a mature reef of at least 200 L with an established copepod population. Supplement with frozen mysis and enriched brine shrimp. Needs a deep sand bed to sleep in. A tight-fitting lid is essential as wrasses jump. Introduce before more aggressive inhabitants. Best kept in a harem of one male with females.
