Lepidiolamprologus attenuatus
Also known as: Attenuatus Cichlid
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Lepidiolamprologus attenuatus is a sleek, elongated predator from the rocky littoral zone of Lake Tanganyika. It relies on speed and camouflage to ambush small fish and invertebrates. A cave spawner that forms relatively tight pairs, it is territorial and aggressive and is best suited to an experienced keeper maintaining a species pair or larger Tanganyika community.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 150L minimum; mixed rock-and-sand layout with large caves. Feeding: Carnivore pellet, frozen lance fish or krill; live feeder shrimp appreciated. Behaviour: Active predator; forms pair bond for spawning; highly territorial around cave sites. Compatibility: Robust mid-sized Tanganyika species only — avoid small or slow-swimming fish.
