Hemigrammus levis
Origin: Amazon basin, South America
Hemigrammus levis (Levis Tetra) is a subtle but attractive tetra from the Amazon basin, presenting a translucent pale body with a narrow iridescent lateral stripe and a faint yellowish caudal spot. A peaceful schooling fish well suited to planted aquariums where its delicate appearance is best appreciated. Soft, slightly acidic water mimicking its natural blackwater habitat encourages the best health and colouration.
Keep in groups of 8 or more in a planted aquarium of at least 60 L with soft, slightly acidic water. Low to medium lighting with tannin-stained water brings out its best colouring. Feed micro-pellets, fine flake, and small frozen foods. Peaceful and compatible with most other Amazonian community fish.
