Limnotilapia dardennii

Limnotilapia dardennii is a medium-large omnivore from the rocky littoral zone of Lake Tanganyika, where it grazes biofilm and algae from rock surfaces. It is a maternal mouthbrooder with a strong personality and reasonable adaptability to aquarium conditions. Best paired with other robust Tanganyika species in a generously sized rocky set-up.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.8-9.0, hard alkaline water. Tank: 250L+; dense rockwork; some open sandy area in front. Feeding: Spirulina-based flake and pellet as staple; supplement with blanched greens and frozen Mysis. Behaviour: Active grazer; maternal mouthbrooder; one male can be territorial toward others. Compatibility: Julidochromis, Neolamprologus brichardi, Cyprichromis in upper levels.
