Carassius auratus
Origin: Captive bred
The Lionhead Red Goldfish is the Chinese counterpart to the Japanese Ranchu, with a massive raspberry-like wen covering the entire head and a straight back without a dorsal fin. The bold all-red variety is characterful and striking, making a strong visual statement in any aquarium. Provide good filtration as the wen can trap debris.
House in a well-filtered aquarium of at least 120 L with cool, oxygenated water (10–22°C). Avoid mixing with fast-swimming goldfish varieties. Feed sinking goldfish pellets to reduce air ingestion. Maintain clean water as the wen traps debris easily. Social with other Lionhead and Ranchu varieties.
