Lipochromis sp. 'Matumbi Hunter'

Lipochromis sp. 'Matumbi Hunter' is an undescribed predatory Lake Victoria cichlid from the Matumbi Hills coast of Tanzania. Large males display dramatic steel-blue flanks and bold black markings that intensify during aggression. A specialised predator that preys on other cichlid larvae and eggs in the wild, requiring careful tankmate selection.

House in a large aquarium of at least 200 L with hard, alkaline water. Avoid housing with small fish or cichlid fry. Provide rockwork for territory delineation. Feed carnivore pellets, frozen shrimp, and cichlid food. Males become intensely aggressive toward each other; keep one male with females or alone. Best for experienced cichlid aquarists.
