Distichodus lusosso

Origin: Central Africa (Congo basin)
Distichodus lusosso is one of the largest Distichodus species, reaching up to 40cm in the aquarium. Its distinctive long, downward-pointing snout is used to pick algae and plant material from surfaces and the substrate. It is a powerful, active fish that requires a very large aquarium and is not suitable for planted tanks.
Water: 23–27°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness. Tank: Minimum 500L; extremely large, robust setup; no live plants. Feeding: Predominantly plant-based: spirulina, blanched courgette, cucumber, peas, and algae wafers. Behaviour: Solitary or small groups; peaceful towards non-plant items but destructive with vegetation. Compatibility: Large, robust West African or Central African tankmates only; not suitable for most community setups.
