Pao cf. cochinchinensis
Also known as: Long-snout Indochinese Puffer
Origin: Vietnam, Cambodia (Mekong tributaries)
Pao cf. cochinchinensis 'Long-snout' is a morphologically distinct form from Mekong tributaries in Vietnam and Cambodia featuring a measurably longer rostrum than the typical species. This elongated snout is thought to aid in probing rocky crevices and root tangles for invertebrate prey. It is rarely imported but draws immediate attention from puffer enthusiasts.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; excellent water quality and moderate flow. Tank: Minimum 130 L; rocky crevices, driftwood tangles, and sandy substrate replicate natural habitat. Feeding: Snails, mussels, cockles, and thin-shelled bivalves that fit its elongated snout. Behaviour: Territorial and aggressive; solitary — individual housing mandatory. Compatibility: Species-only; solo aquarium with no tankmates.
