Danio rerio var. (spotted longfin)
Also known as: Longfin Leopard Danio
Origin: South Asia (captive-bred)
The Longfin Leopard Danio combines two captive-bred mutations of Danio rerio — the spotted pattern and the longfin trait — in a single fish. The result is a graceful, flowing-finned fish with an attractive spotted body pattern. It is fully hardy and peaceful but requires slightly calmer water than standard danios to prevent fin damage, and must not be kept with fin-nipping species.
Water: 18–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, wide hardness tolerance (GH 5–20). Tank: 60 L minimum; gentle current; avoid sharp decorations that could snag fins. Feeding: Omnivore; quality flake, micro-pellets, and frozen brine shrimp or daphnia. Behaviour: Peaceful active schooler; keep in groups of 8+. Compatibility: Avoid fin-nipping species; pairs well with corydoras, small peaceful tetras, and rasboras.
