Astronotus ocellatus
Also known as: Longfin Oscar, Long-finned Oscar
Origin: South America
The Longfin Oscar is a selectively bred variant of Astronotus ocellatus prized for its dramatically extended dorsal, anal, and caudal fins. It retains all the personality and hardiness of the standard Oscar while adding a graceful aesthetic. Highly interactive and will learn to recognise its owner.
Water: 23-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, moderately hard acceptable. Tank: Minimum 400L, strong filtration essential; Oscars are heavy waste producers. Feeding: Carnivore; large pellets, prawns, earthworms, occasional live feeder fish. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; can be kept as pairs but may fight without space. Compatibility: Best with other robust large cichlids of similar size; avoid small fish.
