About

The Longfin White Cloud Mountain Minnow is a captive-selected variety of Tanichthys albonubes in which all fins are significantly elongated, adding an elegant, almost veil-like quality to the fish's movement. The classic red anterior fin tips, vivid neon lateral stripe, and silver-green body of the wild type are fully retained, creating a fish of considerable visual appeal.

All care requirements are identical to the standard White Cloud Mountain Minnow. The longfin trait does not impact hardiness, and these fish remain among the toughest coolwater aquarium species available. The extended fins require that fin-nipping tankmates be avoided — a peaceful, species-specific or carefully chosen community setup is recommended.

Longfin White Clouds breed readily using the same egg-scattering approach as the standard form. The longfin trait is heritable, though offspring may show variable fin length, and selective breeding over several generations is needed to maintain consistent fin extension.

Care Guide

Water: Temperature 14–22°C, pH 6.0–8.0, GH 5–20; cool and clean water essential; avoid fin-nipping species to protect extended fins. Tank: Minimum 40 L; well-planted cool-water tank; gentle filtration; tight-fitting lid to prevent jumping. Feeding: Omnivorous; flake, micro-pellets, and all frozen foods accepted; varied diet maintains fin health and colouration. Breeding: Egg-scatterer over plants or spawning mop; longfin trait partially heritable; raise fry on micro-foods and baby brine shrimp. Compatibility: Peaceful with all cool-water species; avoid fin-nippers; excellent with standard White Clouds, hillstream loaches, and cool-water danios.
