Corydoras macropterus
Also known as: Longnose Cory, Long-nosed Catfish
Origin: South America
Corydoras macropterus is a sizeable cory from Atlantic coastal river systems in southeastern Brazil, with a notably elongated snout used to probe substrate for food. It is found in cooler, well-oxygenated waters and tolerates lower temperatures than many tropical cories. Its size requires a larger aquarium with good filtration.
Water: 20–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to medium hardness; prefers cooler, well-oxygenated water. Tank: 100L+, fine sand substrate, good flow and oxygenation, plants and open areas. Feeding: Sinking wafers, pellets, frozen bloodworm, earthworm, and brine shrimp. Behaviour: Peaceful schooling bottom dweller; keep in groups of 6+. Compatibility: Good with subtropical community fish; tolerant species.
