Loreto Pencilfish

Nannostomus trifasciatus 'Loreto form' is a captivating three-striped pencilfish variant from the Loreto region of Peru, with three bold horizontal bands of black, gold, and cream giving it a distinctive, crisp appearance. A peaceful species preferring soft, slightly acidic water with dense planting and open midwater areas. Males become more intensely coloured and slightly territorial toward each other during breeding.

Keep in groups of 8+ in a planted aquarium of at least 40 L with soft, acidic water. Low light and tannin-stained water bring out the best colours. Feed micro-pellets, baby brine shrimp, and fine flake foods. Peaceful with all similarly-sized tankmates. Avoid housing with fin-nipping species.
