Pseudanthias squamipinnis
Origin: Indo-Pacific, Red Sea
Pseudanthias squamipinnis is the most widely available anthias in the hobby, with males displaying orange-red bodies and a distinctive elongated third dorsal spine, and females a vivid orange-yellow. The standard-bearer for the genus in terms of hardiness and adaptability to aquarium conditions. Requires frequent feedings for best long-term results.
Keep in a harem of 1 male and 3–6 females in a reef of at least 200 L. Feed frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and copepods 3+ times daily. Provide strong water flow and open swimming space. Peaceful with other reef inhabitants. Regularly feed to prevent the male from losing condition.
