Bodianus anthioides
Origin: Red Sea, Indo-Pacific
The Lyretail Hogfish (Bodianus anthioides) is an elegant wrasse with a white posterior body splashed with red-orange spots and a flowing, lyrate tail. Hardy and adaptable, it tolerates a wide range of tank conditions better than many other wrasses. Juveniles can act as cleaners and are often seen performing cleaning behaviour toward tankmates.
House in an aquarium of at least 250 L with a tight-fitting lid. Feed frozen mysis, krill, chopped shrimp, and meaty marine foods. Peaceful with most fish but may eat small ornamental invertebrates. Provide open swimming areas alongside rockwork. Juveniles make excellent cleaners and are safe with most reef fish.
