Pseudochromis porphyreus
Origin: Western Pacific
The Magenta Dottyback (Pseudochromis porphyreus) sports a brilliant solid magenta or pink colouration that makes it a standout in any reef aquarium. Closely related to the Orchid Dottyback, it shares a similar care profile. Captive-bred individuals are preferred for their hardiness and somewhat calmer disposition compared to wild specimens.
House in a reef or FOWLR aquarium of at least 80 L with live rock for hiding. Feed frozen mysis, meaty marine foods, and quality pellets. Can be territorial toward similar-sized or same-coloured fish; introduce before more aggressive species. Captive-bred specimens are more readily available and recommended.
