Magnificent Brazilian Killifish

Simpsonichthys magnificus is a truly magnificent annual killifish from the seasonal pools of central Brazil. Males display a breathtaking pattern of vivid red and blue spots on a dark body, with brightly coloured fins adding to their spectacular appearance. It is a demanding species that requires experienced annual killifish husbandry with proper peat incubation and attentive water quality management.

Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.0, soft and slightly acidic water. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat substrate for spawning; very secure lid. Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, and blood worm; dried foods rarely accepted. Behaviour: Males highly territorial; strictly one male per tank. Compatibility: Species tank only.
