Betta mahachaiensis
Origin: Thailand (Samut Sakhon)
Betta mahachaiensis is a rare wild betta endemic to the Samut Sakhon Province of Thailand, inhabiting brackish coastal swamps dominated by nipa palms. Males display iridescent blue-green bodies and deep red fin edges. This species tolerates slightly elevated salinity that most bettas cannot. Considered vulnerable in the wild due to habitat destruction.
House alone or as a single male in a species-appropriate aquarium of at least 40 L. Can tolerate slightly brackish water (a small amount of aquarium salt is beneficial). Feed quality frozen foods, live artemia, and brine shrimp. Provide a lid to prevent jumping. Keep males isolated from each other.
