Bhavania australis is a slender, elegantly proportioned hillstream loach from the cool, fast-flowing rivers descending the Western Ghats of southern India. Its pale body carries subtle reticulated brown markings and it uses adhesive ventral surfaces to navigate smooth boulders against current. A modestly sized species suitable for experienced hillstream aquarists seeking Indian subcontinent biotope species.
Water: 20-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, well-oxygenated, moderate to strong flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, smooth Indian river stone substrate, moderate current. Feeding: Biofilm primary; supplement algae wafers, micro-pellets, blanched spinach. Behaviour: Active grazer; rests on rock faces between feeding bouts. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable with small Indian stream fish and other hillstream species.
