Tetraodon cf. lineatus from Madagascar represents an isolated population with banding similar to the Nile Puffer, adapted to the island's freshwater rivers and lakes. Madagascar's unique biogeographical history means this form may represent a distinct undescribed species. It is extremely rarely encountered in the trade and commands serious collector interest.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard; consistent water quality is essential. Tank: Minimum 300 L; open sandy substrate, driftwood, and large open swimming space. Feeding: Large snails, mussels, clams, whole cockles, and prawns. Behaviour: Highly aggressive and territorial; strict solo species-only housing required. Compatibility: Species-only; no tankmates of any kind.
