Synodontis njassae
Also known as: Malawi Squeaker, Njassae Synodontis
Origin: Africa (Lake Malawi)
Synodontis njassae is one of the few catfish species endemic to Lake Malawi, making it a natural and appropriate choice for Malawi cichlid biotope aquariums. Its brownish body with fine darker spotting blends naturally into rocky lake environments. It is a hardy species tolerant of the hard, alkaline chemistry characteristic of the East African Rift Lakes.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.5–8.5, moderately hard to hard (GH 10–20); Rift Lake chemistry. Tank: 200 L minimum; rocky aquascape with caves; open sandy areas. Feeding: Sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen bloodworm, and shrimp. Behaviour: Nocturnal; somewhat territorial; generally tolerant of cichlid aggression. Compatibility: Ideal companion for Malawi mbuna and Aulonocara cichlids.
